Look Ma! Donkeys!
During our trip to Ireland, I saw a booklet on a donkey sanctuary in Co. Cork. Previous to reading about it in the guide book, I have never thought about what happens to abandoned donkeys. I guess it make sense.
Now, I always like donkeys, so reliable, so cute, and work so very hard, and stubborn. They always seem depressed, aka Eyeore. And it was a treat to see a real live herd of them.
I learned a lot about donkeys at the Donkey Sanctuary. For one thing, they are not native to Ireland. I don’t know about you, but when I think of Ireland I think of donkeys pulling carts. Since they are not native, they actually don’t do very well in the field. There are a lot of abandoned donkeys now the farmers have tractors and what not.
Anyway, the sanctuary is pretty nice. The donkeys just hang out and eat carrots and mints. They are pretty friendly, liked to be petted. They are not mean at all! I suspect since this is an attraction, they only put the nice donkeys out. Where do the mean donkeys go? Who knows. If you know send me email. via my guestbook! Yes, I installed a guest book on my server.
The donkey people are very serious about their donkeys. You can adopt them but they make surprise visits to make sure you are not mis treating them. And you can’t just one, you, have to get 2. I guess they get lonely.
It was a lot of fun. If you are going to be Ireland, I recommend going to check them out!
